Ironically, the TCR-100 at WGGB in Springfield, MA was ALSO was nicknamed "Fred" by the ops & engineering staff.   Must have been a regional thing...  ;-)

We had an early Datavision character generator named "Fred". The name stood for "F-ing Ridiculous Electronic Device". A friend who made it to NBC told me they had equipment named "Fred" as well.

Would like to hear what "Alfred" really stood for. Perhaps "Another Loser FRED"?
