Bill,

Most of the Low Band Mono tapes I recall were recorded with a 5 mil head
(not the standard 10 mil head).

The digital TBCs of the AVR-2 and TR-600 generation were clocked by an
oscillator locked to colorburst.  What happens when no colorburst is
present?  Perhaps a VR-1200 with AMTEC could do better.
