Whatever you do don't use Acetone. It will break down the binder of the 
"emulsion" side of the tape and all you will have is a reel of black polyester 
streamer.

I will be labeled a heretic. I used a Q-tip and (gasp) Xylene. Dave K ?mentioned 
naptha which I haven't tried. Would Acetone do the trick? The Xylene has the 
virtue of leaving no residue of its own but I don't know about the other 
solvents. I don't think you'd want anything oily though it would loosen the 
sticky stuff.
