Hi Ted,

Our Ampex German office was in Frankfurt, and I had many good times there, 
sometimes at 

The Apple Wine Bars, great basic German food, served family style, with all the 
Apple Wine you could drink,
and then I would try to walk back to the Hotel.

I was there the year the Chicago Bears played in the SuperBowl and I watched it 
@10:30 PM on AFRTS.

I was in Hamberg in the morning and had a fast trip back in light blowing snow, 
at 120mph in a Mercedes with hi speed snow tires on the Autobahn.

 
Have a great trip, and ask about the old Ampex ex-trainer/German field 
engineer(who came from Northern California) Wayne Eaton, who would lead me 
astray, every time I was in Frankfort.

I used to go to the Bosch VT factory in Darmstadt a lot
Good restaurant  In Frankfurt 
 
It’s in the Castle that belonged to the Frankenstein family, no they did not 
make monsters
But Mary Shelly visited there before she wrote the book and it’s believed she 
used their name
High up overlooks Frankfurt airport.

Hope you had an enjoyable New Year's Eve, and spend the New Year's Day in a 
similar way.
 
I'll be flying from San Francisco to Frankfurt, Germany on New Year's Day, then 
taking an ICE train to Berlin for my delayed Annual Visit to the MWA Nova 
factory.   The train beats sitting in the airport for six hours to make an 
aerial connection, and should be a good variation on previous Lufthansa 
shuttles.
 
On the way back, I'll stop in Wiesbaden to visit with Tomislav (Tom) Marjanovic, 
who worked for Ampex in Germany installing and maintaining Quads.  He's still 
consulting.
 
Will also see mutual friend Gert Redlich who arranged visits to various video 
related sites last year... (some of which I still need to process and post.)
 
I think Gert's arranging a trip to the Communications Museum in Frankfurt.
