Ted,

The connectors for the large boards in the top of the machine need to be cleaned every so ofter or at least re-seated. They had trouble with the connectors, even sending a field tech to bend them a little with a home-made tool to make them a bit tighter.

If you have the old slip rings, that needs to be cleaned every so often. The dust starts to short out the AST brushes.

And yes, the brushes and disk need to be cleaned on the scanner motor. I used an eraser.
