Today, we see any Iconoscope images from the 1930's and 40's through the medium of film, recorded via a Kinescope recorder that shot a TV monitor, since videotape didn't come into use until 1956.



But there's an opportunity to see what an Iconoscope image looks like when recorded today:

It's a 15 minute documentary about a Japanese gentleman who has made a working, Iconoscope camera using a very old but good-condition Iconocsope tube and modern electronic circuits.


The documentary shows how good television might have looked—particularly in the studio—and when all parts of the system were working well.
