Re the Betacam gear, the adaptor for color viewing from the camera was an
odd black box, not really suitable for field use, but ok to use in an
emergency for playback. 
I used to get "viewable" color playback from a VR1100 with just using the
Amtec output  (and careful guide and tip adjustment) to a color monitor.
