The connector cover is longer on a MK XV because it is a blue ribbon 16 rather than an 8  for the MK X. 



Hey, I got a question for anyone on the list concerning the MK XV, AVR-2: 



Why wasn't there a head blower installed on the AVR-2 to cool the head motor ? 



Was it just the fact there was no more space available , or did the MK XV head not need cooling? 



I notice the transport top does have two holes drilled for cooling where the blower hose would normally connect.

Nope, it's not the same head in all of the pictures.  The only one that's a XV is the one mounted on the machine.  The others are a Mk-X.  As I said, there's a definitive way to identify the Mk-X and the Mk-XV.  Hint.......anytime you can see either the top or the bottom of the baseplate, you can tell whether it's a X or a XV.

You have answered a few questions.  The only thing is that one has to assume that it is the same head in all the pictures.   


I would agree that it is a 15 head because of the probability of any other is so small.  But if the firing squad was cleaning the rifles and loading them as I was asked the question, I would not bet the life on it.

The first guess would be that the head has a manual guide adjuster on it.  This was on the Mark 15 heads.  
  
But there were some machines that may have not used the auto guide assembly.  I say this as the guide was listed as an accessory in the set of books.  
  
So does anyone know if there was a machine that did not have the electronic guide assembly in the VR-1000, 1100, or 1200 series.  How about the E models that were the low boy so called portable units?  Or the 1100's? 
  
Now Mark 10 heads could be used in earlier machines.  There was a trimmer module that replaced the nuvistor or transistor pre amp that allowed this.
