The MII format didn't come about until 1985 or ‘86. My understanding was that The Tonight Show was being recorded to 1" Type-C at the time MII came out, and they resisted the move to that format.

> Dennis, did they go to MII at that point?  I know we had stereo Ampex quad machines in the early to mid 80s.  I am assuming that NBC was all RCA back them, but I have little experience with those.
