It's the 50th Anniversary of the VR-2000 introduction at NAB, which also ushered in the era of High Band (aka High-Band, Highband) recording, which made significant improvements to picture quality.

It would be another seven years before Ampex introduced another ground-breaking VTR, the AVR-1.

By the time that occurred, the VR-2000 and it's updated versions are said to have been the Ampex's most profitable product, according to a report about a 1971 award to Colortec inventor Charles Coleman, mentioned here:

See the VR-2000B brochure from 1969 on QuadList member Don Norwood's website:

I'd love to write something about Ampex introducing a new product at NAB this year.

Sorry I missed the opportunity three days ago to tell about the new VR-2014 which uses Ultra High Band via the Bong modulation process designed by the company's well regarded scientist Wha chubin Zmowking.

Been swamped prepping for NAB, where we will be screening real-time 4K+™ from an MWA Nova Choice4K+™ using 8, Super8, 9.5 and 16mm film stocks.

Hope all who are attending have safe trips, plenty of food and are able to make the Quad Videotape Group Annual Lunch at NAB on Tuesday.

Details below.

Back to packing.
