[QuadList] Did NBC use white lines for queuing?

I remember shows from the ITV (Britain) having a small "crosshatch"
rectangle in the upper part of the pic that was used as an indicator for
breaks...

The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson may have been the initial user of
this pulse. I believe the show A.D. triggered the pulse. Maybe the T.D. at
the A.D.'s cue. Since Tonight was a 60 network 60 local avail, it was
essential to let the affiliates know the break was coming.

Hello all:

Yes, NBC did use those lines/boxes for cueing. Up until the mid to late
'80's, NBC would use that form of alerting stations when to start quad heads
(flashing), and then roll (steady) for those shows that weren't pre-recorded
in advance and had timings distributed. Normally, MCR received TWXs of all
shows with pretty accurate timings. The exceptions were things like:
Tonight, Tomorrow, Today, etc.
