You sure drew a bunch of blanks, sorry, I don't recognize any of the names. Grand central was before my time, I started in 1967 when I came off of active duty with the Navy.

I did find one funny thing looking at the back e-mails, there is a reference to the Ampex Fact Book, where it mentions that Ampex delivered it's 1000 th VTR to CBS in NYC.  We had about 35 2000's, wonder where the other 965 machines were placed??  Or did they mean it was their 1000th machine which was delivered to CBS? Wonder who they were trying to impress?

I also don't recognize any of the contributors on the past e-mails.

You're the first CBS NY VT employee on the list, to my knowledge.  We look forward to your contributions about Quads and CBS.

You probably worked with retired NY CBS'er Harold W. Deppe, Sr. at Grand Central and the Broadcast Center. His son, Harold W. Deppe, Jr., KGUN, Tuscon, AZ is on the list.


There are other current CBS folks among the group, including David Keleshian, Telecine at CBS Television City, where the Quads live on in Jurassic Park... where the telecines were located, last I was there.


Other CBS folks: Steve Thomas, CBS/WWJ-TV, Detroit and his co-worker, Chuck Reti, Chuck Reti Video Services, WWJ-TV, Detroit PTV, Detroit, MI.


You probably remember some of the machines pictured in NBC Today Show Editor Dennis Degan's collection of 1978 photos:

On one photo of several VR-2000's, Dennis says, "There were so many of these, you could get lost."
Interesting use of space for a coat rack and closet in between machines.

My name is George Keller, I retired from CBS, New York last year, (Thanksgiving was my last day on the job) where I worked for 42 years.  I was a supervisor in the Video Tape Maint dept. It was great fun, I worked on 1200's, 2000's, AVR-2's and recently a couple of AVR-1's as well as the ACR's and HS-100's.  I also did lots of freelance stuff on this equipment around the NYC area on my days off as well as some ABC remotes with a Miami TV station.  I enjoyed every minute of it.  We had great guys in the department, great managers, directors, etc.
 
After I see what kind of traffic comes across this site, maybe I could add (or learn) something of interest.
