Sometimes the 50HZ/60Hz thing can help.

The NAVCOMSTA which is located on the Spanish Navy Base in Rota Spain, uses 60Hz, the rest of Spain is 50Hz. This is a big help when you are trying to track down RF noise in the area.  Just lock your spectrum analyzer to "line" and if the noise moves it is 50Hz, if it doesn't move it is 60Hz.

I love the Japanese story
 
Whatever frequency you have it helps if you neighbors have the same, then you can import and export power to help each other
 
This might be a tad complex if you have 50Hz and 60Hz

I might add that Japan has both 50 and 60hz, a situation created when the competing AC power companies each built systems on different sides of the main Japanese island.
