[QuadList] Another Jeporady Question-Quads not made by AmpexorRCA

Hi Folks,

The quad patent package was well controlled and also applied to helicals and continued through the mid 80's to the best of my knowledge. We made money on everybody that made a Quad and later a helical video recorder in the free world.
I have seen the product shipment reports for most manufacturers.
The Ginsberg patent related to the FM recording system and was the basis of the package.

Bye for now, Bill & Ginger (whoof...whoof)

Hi Ted:

By the time Merlin got thru with the machine, it had an Ampex headwheel,
Ampex audio heads and an Ampex pinch roller.  Whether those were part of
the original Shibaden design I do not know.  Ken Zin can probably tell
us.

In the "fine print" of the question Chris originally asked, he did say only
original manufacturers that did not rely on the major parts of other
manufacturers.  Some of these machines, like the Visual/Allen, would not
exist without the "big guy's" parts.  On the other hand, machines like the
Bosch are clearly original.  I think the intention was to explore
how many companies actually made quads from top to bottom.  Otherwise, I
could be a "manufacturer" since I've built and sold machines made out of a
variety of parts.

  Hi, Bill,

Sorry if the below sound a little sharp in reply... Not much
  sleep. Too much going on.

The Shibaden catalog pictures and text would be of great interest.
If you find it again, please try to scan and post.

Anyone else have some Shibaden info?

  Ted

Don Norwood posted two different brochures for the system on June 3,

      I
used to have a Shibaden catalog from the 70s that showed their quads and
they looked to be RCA clones if not rebadged RCA.

      2"
      Quads:

      Bosch              (Germany)

      Visual/Allen    (Bosch transport and heads
from Germany w/Visual/Allen Electronics from US)

      Shibaden                     (Japan)

      TAMCO                      (Japanese partnership btw.
Ampex and Toshiba making Ampex designed machines in
      Japan)

      1"
      Quad:

                  Asaka (Japan) Company also known
      as Asaka/ShibaSoku

      Sony,
NHK made 2" Quad prototypes in Japan.

      I
suspect there are more to be found.  The hunt continues!  (We
      need some Japanese QuadList members!)

      We
all know the Ampex and RCA machines.  A number of us have seen other
machines in use.  So the question of the day
      is.

      What
      other manufactures built quad machine?

      The
answer can not be a refurbished machine that was built on someone else's
platform.  I know of two of the manufactures.  I do not
know a third one but am aware of the machine.  There may be
      more.
