Thanks Dave,

Great youtube footage. That's the 60's. TR-22 and an Ampex 1000 (1st machines I worked on at KUHT). Love all the Techs in shirts and ties. Remember WGN in 1970 where all the Engineers wore shirt and tie except on some of the night weekend shifts.

Those were the days!

This is the Digest of the QuadList. Trim your post to relevant info when replying. Change subject to reflect thread. Thanks.

That will keep the entire digest and a bunch of headers with gobblydgook from being re-sent to the list. Thanks.

That's WAY later then '65/'66. Exhibit one is the TCR-100 in the foreground. The machines are TR-70's. And I'm quite sure this is in the "new" building on the SW Freeway which opened in '72 or '73.

But a GREAT picture of when VTR's were manly machines!

Vintage and crowded tape room in Houston.

Go to 3:20 in. VR-1000's peacefully coexisting with a TR 70 (or is it a TR 22?).

Later, a much nicer tape room evolved:

Hello Pat,

Perhaps my original posting needs to be re-worded slightly.

In 1965-66, KPRC produced a documentary (sales pitch) for their news operation in Houston. Someone uploaded a rather poor transfer of this film on YouTube. It is in three parts. In part 3 at 3:20, you will see a segment where a newsman is viewing 2" quad material in a crowded tape room consisting of RCA and Ampex VTR's.

Click the following:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m58pYLWNyA

Now compare that tape room to the picture of the newer version taken approx. 1973 in the new facility.

I hope this clarify's the original post. By the way, I remember Larry Rasco as he was pretty much the voice of Big 2 News in the 60's and 70's.

Best Regards,

David Crosthwait
