Let me ask the PTL forum about the crane.

National Religious Broadcasters puts out a magazine of the same name.
Perhaps that is who you are referring to?

Attached is a companion picture of the cover of RCA Broadcast News.  It goes
with the post card.  Perhaps it goes with the news release that you have.

FRED! This is wonderful to have the cameramen's names!

We will probably break the PTL  section   off  to a section 

instead of having it in the TK 47  section on the museum's website
since we  will be  getting earlier  cameras  pictured and  VTRS  etc.

QUESTION...  Folks ist hat  boom  seat  thing is  that a CHAPMAN CRAINE?

What  else can  we  dig up to ad?

There was a whole magazine  related to religious broadcasting and we have a
stash of them.... somewhere.

Guess I better  dig them out huh?  When we  got them years ago it  did not
seem  'OLD'  but  yes seems like  lost history now.

One person said that PTL acquired a lot of RCA cameras and VTRbs in 1975 or
76.  However, the TK-47 was not introduced until 1978, and I recall an older
TK-44 being used as a fixed wide shot in the bBarnb Auditorium which was
attached to the same control room as the main PTL studio.  So that camera as
well as the other TK-44s might have been a part of the original purchase in
1975 that they are referring to.  He gave me the name of someone to ask, so

This is almost certainly a staged shot.  They noted that the cameras are not
pointed at Bakker, nor is he in the camera monitors.  They said that there
might be several such staged shots per day for things happening around PTL.
One lady thought that he was holding a bHeritage Heraldb which was the
daily paper I was referring to.  Another person felt certain that this shot
was taken for the cover of Broadcast Magazine, (or perhaps the occasion of
having made the cover of that magazine) and that he was holding a copy of
that magazine.  But it doesnbt look like there is a picture on whatever he
is holding.  So I think it might be the Heritage Herald or some similar
paper.

Everyone does agree on the names of the cameramen:  Ricardo Valle is on Cam3
and Rick Auten is on the boom.  They arenbt sure who took the picture, as
there were four photographers on staff at the time.  However, Phil Eggert
was the chief photographer at the time.

No one seems to dispute my assessment of the time frame, nor have they
narrowed it down any.

I have a PTL postcard in the museum's collection at  SMECC that has Baker
and the camera crews  with TK-47s.. wonder  what  year it  was? Please let
me know.

I am presently the Chief Engineer of Global Universitybs TV studio in
Springfield, MO.  I have been in broadcasting for 30 years; having interned
at the PTL Television Network, where I got my first taste of videotape on 2b
and 1b and got hooked!  After my internship, I moved back to my hometown of
Pittsburgh, PA where I worked at WRS Video Labs, starting as a dubber, but
was soon promoted to Engineer and eventually to Shop Foreman.  While there,
I maintained Ampex AVR-1bs and had the opportunity to restore two AVR-2bs.
I mainly worked on their Ampex 1b VPR-2Bbs though.

After three years there, I met my wife and moved to Florence, SC to be
closer to her.  There I worked for WPDE-TV15, maintaining their Umatic and
Beta SP decks.  In 1995, I transitioned into my present position at ICI
University, which became Global University in 2000.  

Presently, I have been called in to maintain an RCA TR-600 at a sister
studio here in town.  I am enjoying this bblast from the pastb in my
career, and look forward to doing more work on the 2b format.  While I am
sure there are younger engineers than I who work on 2b, I figure that I must
be one of the youngest (at age 50) who operated 2b; since I did so at the
beginning of my career.

I am also working on a Sony 1b and a Hitachi 1b VTR in the same facility.
If anyone has knowledge of Hitachi 1b VTRs, or knows of a 1b forum in
cyberspace, I would appreciate the information.

Having read the wisdom of many of the engineers on this forum, I doubt that
I will contribute much.  Ibm not sure I have that much to contribute.  But
if I can help you somehow, just ask.
